Macular Degeneration and Cataracts are both vision problems that are often caused by aging. In fact, these two conditions can often be found together in one person. These two conditions are also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. This article will discuss these two conditions and what causes them.
Macular Degeneration is the most common form of AMD. This disease causes the central vision to be lost. This means that you can no longer see well up close. You can still see things clearly from far away. However, you cannot see well up close. The most common symptoms of this condition are seeing spots, dark spots or small lines that do not go away when you look at something. Sometimes these spots are called “drunken spots”. This is because they are very small and appear as if you have had too much alcohol.
Cataracts are another type of vision problem. This is a clouding of the lens inside your eye. This clouding makes it difficult for light to get through to your retina. As a result, your eyesight becomes blurry and you cannot see well. This is especially true if you wear glasses or contacts. If you have cataracts, your doctor may recommend surgery to remove them. However, there are other ways to treat cataracts.
Macular Degenerations and Cataracts are both caused by the same thing. This is the aging process. However, the way that each of these conditions affects the body is different. Macular Degeneration is caused by the thinning of the macula of the retina. This happens over time. The macula is the part of the retina that allows you to see up close. It is located in the center of your eye. Cataracts are caused by a build up of proteins that make the lens cloudy. They cause the lens to become hard and thick. When this happens, light does not get through to your retina.
Macular Degenerated and Cataracts are both very common. In fact, almost everyone will develop at least one of these conditions at some point in their lives. If you are over 50 years old, then you have a greater chance of developing one of these conditions. However, if you are under 50 years old, then you are more likely to develop cataracts than macular degeneration.

There are many different types of treatments for both conditions. Your doctor can help you decide which treatment is best for you.
