A diabetic person has to take care of his blood sugar levels. Blood sugar is the glucose in the blood. Glucose is an important nutrient for the body and is the source of energy. It is stored as glycogen in the liver, muscles and fat cells.
When the blood sugar level rises, it is converted into glucose which is then released into the blood. When the level drops, glucose is taken up from the blood and stored as glycogen.
When blood sugar levels are high, they cause excessive release of insulin by the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps to convert the glucose into energy.

When blood sugar falls too low, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. This leads to the glucose being taken out of the blood and deposited as glycogen in the liver and muscles.
High blood sugar causes damage to the blood vessels and nerves, and can lead to heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, stroke and gangrene.
Blood sugar levels vary throughout the day. The normal blood sugar level is between 70mg/dl and 110mg/dl. The level rises during a meal, and then falls after the meal.
The most common type of diabetes is Type 1 diabetes. This is caused by the destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas, and results in the patient’s inability to produce insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is also known as adult onset diabetes. It occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin. The beta cells continue to make insulin but it does not have an effect on the body.
The best way to control diabetes is to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy weight. You should also follow a healthy lifestyle. You should avoid smoking, alcohol and drugs. You should get regular medical checkups and see your doctor if you have any health problems.
