Toothache, Bleeding Gums and Bad Breath
Toothache, bleeding gums and bad breath are three common problems that most people face. It is not uncommon for any one of these problems to occur at any given time. There are several reasons why people get these problems. Some of them may be genetic while others may be due to poor oral hygiene. The most common reason for all three problems is plaque accumulation in the mouth. This is a very common problem among children as well as adults.
Plaque accumulation can lead to several problems. Plaque is made up of food particles, bacteria and other substances that stick together. When plaque accumulates it begins to harden. When plaque hardens it creates tartar. Tartar is a layer of plaque that has hardened. Tartar will begin to break down teeth and cause tooth decay and gum disease.
If you have tartar buildup you need to make sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day. You should also use a good quality toothpaste. Toothpaste contains fluoride which is beneficial to teeth. Fluoride prevents cavities and reduces the risk of dental diseases such as gingivitis. If you want to prevent plaque from accumulating you should avoid using tobacco products. Tobacco products such as cigarettes contain chemicals that can irritate your gums. Also if you smoke you should be careful about the foods that you eat. Food particles can stick to your teeth and gum line and cause plaque buildup.

When plaque builds up you should see your dentist. Your dentist can remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth. In some cases your dentist may recommend that you take prescription medications to help control the build up of plaque. You should see your dentist at least once every six months. You should also see your dentist if you have bleeding gums or bad breath.
